Changed the oil for the second time on the new lawn mower that one supposedly doesn't have to ever change the oil on. The first time I changed it after a few hours of run time there were lots of glittery bits in the oil as one expects with a new engine running in. This time I didn't see glittery bits but the used oil had a definite metallic gray color to it, and was pretty dark.

Frankly I think the "never change the oil" bit is marketing nonsense.

Today was a really weird day. I was trying to charge my vehicle away from home for the first time without luck. In pulled up in some kind of unusual looking hybrid that needed charging. The driver was somewhat of an expert in EVs as his was made from parts from a BMW i8, a Maclaren, Telsa battery with an elevator motor on the front axle! Thing looked like something from a post apocalypse world. Conflicting stickers all over it(Peace not war next to USMC). A 1975 Trans AM wrap on the front, black on one side and yellow on the other.

He had a Native American headdress in passenger seat. He said he was a chief I don't know but he certainly knew his family history. He kept mentioning a family that came to the new world that he was also part of, it finally dawned on me this was my fraternal great-grandmother's family he was talking about![emoji1787] Guy really taught me a lot as I was able to get a free charge from the electric company. Chatted with a couple of other Tesla owners while I was getting charge.

Ended up talking with a couple who were traveling via motorcycle with side cars and a Labrador in one sidecar. They are tent camping! Said this was a short trip last year they did Nevada to Alaska the same way!

That is a great story, and thanks for sharing it.

This really sent me into a tizzy:

I was trying to decipher this, when I realized you must not REALLY have meant "fraternal" great-grandmother, right? Paternal, maybe? Or else I need some explanation!

Perhaps the great-grandmother was the OP's non-identical twin?

Our stationary bike got delivered, so we put it together.

I rode it while watching a YouTube video in which someone videotaped their own ride. It did make me feel a bit like I was riding on the road. I didn't realize there are so many videos of this kind with people biking through different beautiful scenic roads. I got a little excited when I saw a glimpse of an ocean (or a big lake) on the far right corner of the screen...

Did FAFSA for youngest son. Glad that is done. He's working on his college apps. Only two apps, one for UC system, one for CSU system. He's promised them to me by the end of the week

Glad fafsa is done.

Added up the travel I've done since March, round numbers:
  • 12,000 road miles in my car
  • 3,000 air miles
  • 1,000 road miles in a rental car
  • 24 hotel nights
At no time did we feel unsafe, although we took plenty of precautions. Masks inside any building, hardly any restaurant dining, social distancing wherever possible.

So for those still thinking it's impossible to travel these days, here is an example of how it can be done safely. Probably no more travel for us this year, but we enjoyed what we got to do.

Still bow hunting with many missed opportunities. Went fishing at the ranch caught a few and threw them back. Fall is in the air and enjoy the smells, sights and sounds which I love to be in the outdoors every chance I can be.

Did some thinking about where to position LED lights and outlets in my shop, and bought some parts to do that job.
I also helped my son with a build of a new mounting assembly for the Accelerator, brake and clutch for on son's racing simulator.

It's been a day for medical issues. Early morning to the orthopedist for a cortisone injection. Occurs every 3-4 months for the past few years. Trying to avoid an inevitable shoulder replacement sometime down the road. Then it was off to the pharmacy for more of my skin cancer prescription of Efudex. This is my second week of treatment and my scalp is starting to burn. I have been having to do this every year for the past 25 years with some cutting and burning in between. Only 2 weeks left to go for this years treatment.

Cheers!

In other medical news, I got letters from my urologist of 25 years and my ophthalmologist of 20 years, both retiring in the next month.

They were both wonderful physicians and did me a world of good, so who the heck do they think they are to leave us in the lurch like that? Both of them are barely 60!

Actually, I'm delighted that they're getting out of the rat race; they both richly deserve it. Just a little concerned about finding replacements I like as much.

I was sucking some free electricity when this little beauty showed up. Gentleman said this was one of the last 5 original Roadsters made.

I was amazed at what it didn't do. No supercharging, autopilot, FSD..... the list was very long. However he was on a couple thousand mile trip said he loved it. Claims he bought it from money made from the IPO. [emoji4]20201007_111302.jpeg

Washed my motorhome, all 37 ft length and 13 ft height of it. Got back from a trip last week driving in rain, it was very dirty. Today was nice upper 70's, so chose to wait until today. It is a lot of work washing this, DW helped to make it less of a workout for just me. I usually try to hit up a truck wash when on the road to get it clean. I typically pay $40-50 to get it done.

Also sold a few more parts off my Jaguar donor car to a guy that came by today to pick up. I am at $715 sold on a $500 cost, plus have all the parts I wanted (front and rear suspensions, plus some misc related pieces) off the car for no net cost. I have some labor taking it all apart, but so far I am $215 positive and have another $40-100 potential sales working right now. Next week I will scrap what's left and should get approx $75-100 additional for the scrap weight. Not a bad return for what will be about 1 month time.

Also put the pool winterizing chemicals in to circulate, and will do the formal closing of the pool tomorrow. Try to get the safety cover on before too many leaves are falling and getting into the water.

Yesterday, my neighbor was cutting up a dead ash tree that had fallen. Those in the midwest are familiar with the ash borer and how it decimated all the as trees around. This one was 18-20 inch diam. He had it cut to length. I helped split and he gave me a bunch of wood, here it is filled up the bed of my 52 GMC hot rod pickup. (Having trouble, can't get pic to load)
