What did you do today? - 2023/2024 version

Went to my Dr. appointment with a pain specialist for the first of a series of three injections into my lower back near the spine for reducing and hopefully eliminating the pain. He does a series of three each time, the first two are intentionally short acting (anywhere from one day to several weeks depending on the individual's reaction) to test my reaction to it and then the last series is supposed to last anywhere from a year to several years to (if you're lucky I guess) to lifetime. At the moment I'm "feeling no pain" and it's not from the Percocet. Yay!

The injection site is a little bit sore but he said that is to be expected. I'll know better how it went tomorrow. For the first time since all this started I'm somewhat optimistic.

That's great!

Pain sucks. I chipped a big piece off a tooth last week and we have the temporary glue on now and in a week or so the dentist and I will re-visit and decide if only a crown or the dreaded root canal and crown will be needed. Maybe even some gum surgery.

I ended a friendship. She was a hoarder who wanted help sorting through what to keep / what to dispose of in her old home. She actually bought a new condo and it's fully furnished. But her old townhouse is still stuffed. Then she complained that she was tight on funds but owns both properties w/o a mortgage. So I suggested that she sell the old one & bank it. Blew up at me bc I won't help her move her 'valuables' that she acquired at yard sales into storage. Yep. Had to cut that toxicity off

Then I went for a hike to clear my head

Cool.

No good can come from "helping sort though this stuff"

Just hurt feelings and wasted time.

Installed the trim molding on the attic access. Tomorrow will load the rest of the prepped flooring into the attic and paint and install the ceiling access panel.

Went on a shopping spree. Hardwood store, Woodcraft, Hobby Lobby. Took my truck so that I could haul more stuff home. Got some wood but may need more.

Whoohoo! That pain shot seems to be working wonderfully. For the first time in a long long time I woke up with no pain at all. I even got brave and conducted a test: I went downstairs and greased the augers on the snow blower. This involves sitting cross-legged in front of it for about 20-30 minutes to remove the shear pins, grease the augers, turn them multiple times to distribute the grease, then clean everything up and replace the shear pins. The last time I did that I was in pain for two days. Today, nothing!

Well, there was some from my hips so I guess that's the next project....

Great news. Don’t overdue it - or next thing you know you’ll have a mile long honey-do list. :)

On a whim headed south and hanging out in Cancun last week and a half. Headed home Friday for a mountain bike race on Sunday.

No bike here, but I’ve been hitting the gym everyday and running… but not eating as healthy as I would be at home. Sitting in second place in our spring mountain bike race series back home. Gonna be a painful Sunday morning as battle my buddy for 1st place standing.

I have been working in the Foss Waterway Seaport the last week or so, a delightful job site for a boat guy.

Our 35 mini was not going to fit, so I rented a 17. We had to run on OSB to keep from marring the polished floors. Here it is going by the fin wale skull, the second largest wale species.

The job was a new public restroom group, and after regrading there was about 3 yards of sand to spare. I used my personal truck to get the trailer in and out of there, it is much better in tight quarters.

Cool beans Sky! Yeah, I could spend a day in there for sure - :)

Today I wrapped up the winter project, just need to wait for a good overcast day to go up and install the rest of the wood.

I also ordered up a simple indoor/outdoor wireless thermometer that I'll place the in the "fan hallway" with the remote sensor in the attic. Will be cool to see the difference the fan makes and how fast it does it.

Checking prices on the web, this little winter DIY saved me a grand or two and that's not counting the extra floor space in the attic - :)

Another beauty of a day around 50 degrees and a blue bird day. I went to ranch in the morning and had lunch there. I than decided to go look for moose sheds but still can't get my hands around one. A nice day for being outdoors and got some great exercise.

Cool, sunny morning. DH and I will head out for a nice walk.

Back at the seaport job to do a little digging. Nothing like sailboat masts and clouds and mountains and sunrise.

Went down to Home Depot to get a reciprocating saw blade to cut some tree roots that are a threat to the lawn mower blades (the tree is coming down later anyway). Followed that up with a visit to the local plumber's office to set up a date for a replacement water softener, fill the truck with gas, a light grocery run, pick up a prescription, and then home for the rest of the day.

Nothing on the agenda today--no medical appointments, no yard or house work needed today, no grocery shopping, not watching either DGK.
So, I am finishing up here, then going to read a book by the fire. Great morning!
Enjoy your day folks!

After 934 days since reserving a new Ford Bronco and ordering a 2021, 2022, and then 2023 all without getting one, I cancelled my order.

Then I got an online survey from Ford. They'll have some fun reading my review.

Costco today.....absolute nut house by 1:00 PM. Doesn't anybody work anymore (besides the Costco folks)?

Booked Mountain view cabin in Colorado for August, make homemade jerky, and Federal taxes.

Dropped off my brother at my sisters house. I love him dearly and was happy he came to visit, and after 2 weeks, just as happy to see him leave.

Among other things, we did get to see the Frost Science Museum in Miami, took the new Brightline train both ways. Definitely one of the more unusual museums I have seen.

Went to ranch early this morning to hand dig, a 2-foot deep 36-inch diameter around well pipe. I then wanted to cut off pipe and rethread it for my permanent well installation. I got about half done because still frost in about half of what I needed dug out. So, I black plastic the pit to help heat up that spot so I can get it dug up.

I did go take the time and have lunch at the cabin. On the way home I stopped at a rancher I know and shot the bull with him for a while. I then went to see it I could get into the Golden Eagle to see if they are back. Too much snow and road were blocked so I headed home. A beautiful day to be in the outdoors.

washed and vacuumed my wife's car, filled it with gas for her quilt day tomorrow, and picked us up some late lunch. I slept in a bunch this morning. It was probably just an accumulated sleep deficit from a hard week.
I have been working on the house design on paper and in my head every day. Heading to the drawing board now.

Have a chuck roast in the smoker, and I cannot tell a lie - I chopped down a cherry tree.

ETA - added a cedar tree to the mix. I'll make something from the cedar once it dries out.

Yeah those are in demand. Around here they have 20k markup for ones on the lot.
Crazy!
