Signed a listing agreement to sell the house. Started looking for a small rental for me and the "Boy" (Toby).

Sounds like a terrific decision, and a decisive move forward in dealing with your new life as a widower. It's going to be a lot of work to move, but what great adventures lie ahead, and fun too! Good luck and know that we are all cheering you on in this endeavor.

Oh, and P.S., I was typing in the word "adventures" at the same time that REWahoo was typing in the word "adventure". We both see it the same way apparently.

Thanks, as this will be a first for me.....I always had somewhere new to go planned out, but this time, I haven't decided what's next. The trigger for me getting a plan in place will materialize once I have a firm offer on the house.

I spent a few weeks back east with my sister and nephews in Connecticut and friends in three other east coast states and came back with no plan to move back anyplace there.

The southeast looks better and better all the time. Having spent 12 years in California means no going back there either.

I have thought about Florida but cost wise that's a non-starter, especially with the insurance industry causing buyers fits and the high rental prices for those renting long term.

One issue I have been surprised about is that the cost of rentals is quite high no matter where you look. It almost makes buying a small house in an affordable area a better deal over a few years of ownership.

Stayed home today and did some odds and ends in yard and on the home. Did a few bike rides and made a dinner for a king. Lol

Paddlefish steak fresh dill, wild black berry currant, onions, carrots, celery, thin sliced potato and wild asparagus all made in a tin on the drill. A 15-minute delicious meal.

Sounds like a great dinner to me, street.

I planted out most of my remaining plants in the garden today and then watered everything. I'm going to wait a few more days to put the eggplants out, and I need to sow the Italian flat beans and the second tranche of corn. Then I'll be done and it will just be weed and water for a while.

Last night, the young wife and I went to the Goodspeed Opera House to see a performance of the musical Gypsy. I really enjoyed it.

What did you do today? - 2023 version

Yesterday I finished twenty hours of bicycle mechanic training, paid for by the company I guide for. Five of us guides went; the boss wants us to be more capable at handling issues that crop up with the bikes while we are out on a multi-day trip.

The SOP is to have a mechanic out on each trip, but before this week there were only two guides (including the boss) who qualified. We routinely run concurrent trips in PA and NY, which has meant those two men have had to work too many trips/spent too much time away from home and the retail shop. Now we (in theory) have more of us to fill the “mechanic” slot.

The training was all hands-on and I learned a lot. I’ve got seven bicycles at home to practice on.

Today, my daughter and I are taking a “mountain biking fundamentals” class. I recently bought a full-suspension bike to ride the local single track, and figured it would be a good idea to learn the basics before I taught myself bad habits. DD has ridden for years but never taken a class;there’s some specific skills she wants to refine.

Coughed $180 for 2 guys to weed wack a very steep slope at our place.
One guy goes down the hill with a harness on him, other guy holds the rope and helps him hang there and cut weeds. Took an hour. It was worth it. No way I could do it myself.

We just returned from a 3 day trip to Atlanta to attend a knife show. Picked up a couple of pocket knives and parts to build some fixed blade knives. My knife collection is growing - around 40 pocket knives and 10 fixed blade knives.

Wow, that's a lot of knives! I have only one pocket knife and one fixed blade knife. My pocket knife is a small Case "Texas Toothpick" that I got in 2007 to replace the 20 year old Swiss Army knife taken from me at the Charles Degaulle Airport. The fixed blade was handmade by my great uncle Jack, full time iron miner in the Mesabi Range and part time bladesmith, who gave it to me in 1970.

That thought crossed my mind, but I am getting too lazy in my old age to mess with an RV.
