What We're Making

The bottle openers are beautiful. What is the wood used for the handles?

Thanks - we don’t know the wood species. Brother in law pulled some logs out of his firewood pile because they were too tough to split, and he gave them to me for projects. He thinks he’ll be able to figure it out by the neighboring trees when they leaf out in the spring. Looks a little like walnut.

Here’s a piece from a crotch between limbs of the same tree. Interesting grain.

1st floor remodel doorway

We are remodeling our house and one of the tasks was to get through a wall to a new living room. We're making it an arched opening with no door.

How do you finish the wood? These really are outstanding.

Beautiful! A lot of great talent.

Ron I like that wood project a lot.

Very nice Philliefan. Enjoy the shower and congratulations to DD.

Thanks - finish on that one is 5 coats teak oil with a light sanding between coats. Then wax applied with 0000 steel wool. I finished 2 others with teak oil and a friction polish at the end. Friction polish is applied while the wood is still on the lathe. The heat from the friction melds the polish to the wood.

Recently made 3 apothecary style drawers for my office. Box joints make a nice appearance. These are hickory.

I like archways.

How did you do the bend part ?

I looked at a lot of options for making the bend in the arches and found a kit through home depot for $25 that works great.

The harder part looks like it will be the molding that will fit inside and then around the door. I found some flexible stuff for the inside and then googled and will try the polyurethane molding with some special cuts to make the trim work out. Almost done with drywall sanding and then will move back to flooring.

Made DW an outside plant pot stand. All ripped out of one Western Red Cedar board. Stained with Spar Urethane.

Home made jam from sand plums. They are about the size of cherries. In addition to being excellent for jam or jelly they are also fun to eat straight off the bush. Screenshot_20190607-133343_Gallery.jpegScreenshot_20190607-133325_Gallery.jpeg

WOW! Some beautiful work by all.

I had a taste for doughnuts, Krispy Kreme style. They are at their best with a glaze, but the glazed ones didn't last long enough to snap a photo.
