Actually this thread is very helpful for comparison . What it tells me is now that my house is paid for a LCOL or MCOL location will not necessarily decrease what I spend on taxes and insurance. So unless I need access to the large equity in my home there is no point in selling and moving to parts unknown.

Retirement house is paid for. Was brand new at $274, 400. Just moved in February of this year.



Pay $415 per month in real estate taxes and HOA is $150 per month. Homeowners insurance is $42 per month. (does not include umbrella insurance which is $26 per month).

No mortgage, HCOL area.

Prop tax: $15,000/yr
Insurance: $1,000/yr
HOA: $2,400/yr

$1,533/month
