6 years to go til 55. House will be paid off, 2 of 3 out of college. minimal debt.
4 k per month Pension plus 65 % of Medical coverage
4 k per month (4% withdrawal 401k calculator)
2 k S.S. @ 62

Does 8k a month cover your living expenses plus enough of a buffer to let you sleep at night?

Depends on how much you spend including the mortgage (at least until it is paid up in at most 6 years) and what you expect your third kid might cost you in college. It all depends on your risk tolerance and subsequent AA how you will sleep at night with your 401k withdrawals.

Only you know how much you need each month. I assume that the 8k must do it. Given that it does, personnally I'd do it in a heartbeat.

A lot do it on much less.

Good luck to you.
