Big problem with PMs
OK, so I know I got two new PMs because I got emails indicating this was the case. Yet when I go to my inbox, I don't see them. I was able to read and reply by hitting the link in the emails that allows you to quote the original and reply, but clearly something is wrong. Is this another gift from our spambot?

Re: Big problem with PMs
Dory, BMJ, I'm having exactly the same problem.
This morning I received an e-mail that Setab had sent me a PM. When I logged into the board I saw the usual upper-right greeting "Hey, Nords, you have 55x messages, 1 is new." However Setab's PM, the new one, didn't display. I didn't pay attention to the last digit of the message (I will from now on!) but I think it was 554.
I went back to my PM index and deleted two old PMs. Still no Setab PM. I poked around the board for a while and when I returned to the PMs the server (or my cache) had updated to announce "Hey, Nords, you have 552 messages, 0 are new." I scrolled down to the bottom of the screen and Setab's PM was there.
What's the PM limit? Please let me know if 500+ PMs is a bad idea. I'd like to think that our recent problems are caused by that Asian porn spammer but I might be hogging a lot of the server's PM space...

Re: Big problem with PMs
I reported message counter errors a week or two ago ("you have -3 messages"). Something's off.

Re: Big problem with PMs
It sounds like it is time for the update that Dory was avoiding because of problems in the process.

Maybe the PM problem is a display issue.
This morning I logged in to "Hey, Nords, you have 554 messages, 1 is new." I knew from my e-mail that the new PM was from REWahoo! The last batch of PMs displayed on the discussion board, the 37th screen, did not include the unread PM and (other than the e-mail link) I couldn't figure out how to call it up.
I deleted three PMs to bring the total down to 551, and REW's PM was added to the end of the 37th screen.
So my PM count appears to be correct but the latest one (or the unread one) doesn't display when there are 554 of them (or more than 37 screens).

Any progress, guys? This seemed to go away for a while, but now it is back.

No.
Dory has a huge upgrade that didn't go well on the previous attempt, and I'm sure that he's in major avoidance contingency-planning mode to get through it better this time.
BMJ is also in flux with his job change, so I don't know how much time he has to devote to the subject.
I've been deleting two or three PMs every day to stay under what appears to be a limit around 555, but otherwise I'm not having any problems.
This may be with us for a few more weeks...

OK, no biggie. I can work around it without a lot of difficulty.

Re: Big problem with PMs
I have this PM problem too. The counter will say that I have a new message, but when I open my box nothing is there. It happens intermittently.
So far, when I see this if I go to my email and get the reminder, I can see the message by following the link in the email

HaHa,
I have the same problem. Delete some PM's and it should be OK.

The same started happening to me around 550 PMs. I pruned the pile back to 475 and haven't had any trouble since.

Re: Big problem with PMs
I have only 71 PMs, and this happens to me occasionally, getting slightly worse over time. It seems that the summing trigger and email trigger are called before the PM is displayed. I personally don't have a problem with this, but maybe it's because I have few PMs. Guess I should add "increase popularity" to my to-do list!

Re: Big problem with PMs
This is still a problem. You might not know you have a PM unless you check the email address you registered with to see if you have any messages and you link to those messages through your email.

Re: Big problem with PMs
I'm going to resurrect this because I think it never got straightened out. When I login, the top of the page shows 1 old PM. Click on that link and there's nothing there. So it looks like the board stats need to be resynced somehow.
