Bold type subject lines

How is it some subject lines are bold and others not?

To answer your question, if you use "advanced reply" and type in a subject, it is in bold. No place to insert a subject using the "quick reply" box, so nothing to bold.

Bold subject lines (thread titles) denote either new posts to a thread (that you haven't read yet) or an entire thread you haven't yet read. Once you click on it the font becomes unbolded.
