Download count

What does the download count for attachments in the control panel mean? I just can't make any sense of the numbers. Some very unlikely pics that I have posted have been downloaded often, while others that might actually be of interest have few or no downloads shown.

It is not important. I am just curious.

Basically you have the idea - but a download (for the counters purposes) also includes any time you double click on the image to enlarge it and this might account for the odd numbers.
