Sure, you should see an edit button below the post. It's active for a fixed time after the post was made - a couple of hours IIRC..

Sure seems like the edit window is a bit longer. Like 4 hours or more.

why not remove the time limit?

I think later edits can make it difficult or confusing to read for people reading the thread later in situations where the thread is a conversation. If it's just people posting their independent thoughts, that issue isn't as much of a problem.

I don't know the rules here, but on one site, posters were unable to edit their submissions after another poster had 'quoted' them.

Eliminates the "I never said that" factor.
