I was going to ask how you changed from CFB to CFA and on to this one.
The original CFB, Cute & Fuzzy Bunny, disappeared a couple of weeks ago. A few people added "Cute & Fuzzy" to their (our) names to try to draw him back. So we are all different people, not new incarnations of the original CFB.
Go to your profile at the top of the screen. When there, at the left, click on account related settings. You can change your displayed name there.
That doesn't seem to work. The "Name" field is not an editable field (text box), it is simply a displayed label. Putting my password in the bottom box and hitting the "change" button brings the same thing.

I was on vacation and didn't notice. Was there an exciting precipitating event that I missed?

You can't change your user name, but right below your user name is your display name, which you can change.

CFB describes himself as a person without a throttle, only and on and off switch. Given how much posting he did on this forum it made it likely that he would get into it with various posters from time to time. He felt it was time to step back as the forum wasn't so much fun for him anymore.

Would it be easy to have people's actual username display alongside their posts, with their displayname?
There's been times I've been a bit confused about who is posting here.
Don't mean to be a spoilsport, as the name changing stuff can be fun (Jennifer?) but sometimes I've come to the joke late and was just confused. (There's WAY too many posts here for me to always keep up.)
I'd imagine some newbies are much more confused than I.
It's pretty wierd when someone is referred to by two or three different names here, because they change their display name so often.
Anyway, no biggie, just thought would bring this up, in case there's an easy way to do, and anyone else thinks is a good idea.

I don't know why one is even allowed to change one's name. Curiosity got the better of me so I just came up with the name 'max' just to see if it worked or not. And it did. But I figure once one adopts a name one should stick with it. Otherwise it is far too confusing.

ditto
I'm sure it's probably been discussed ad nauseum in the past, but it is very confusing.
Sorry for asking a question that's undoubtedly been asked many times previously, but why distinguish display names from usernames; and why allow display names to be changed?

It's the way the board software is by default. At this point many users have altered display names, and to change things now would probably prompt a series of account closings and reopenings. I know it's confusing, but it's funny, too. Most people don't do it regularly, though. CFB was the only user I can think of who periodically used it to completely change his name.
