Hi -

While I was in the USA in 2002 on an H1B visa, I applied for and received a Social Security number. I stayed in the US for 4 months and moved on to India. Is the SSN still valid and can I use it for any specific requirement in the United States?
Thanks in advance.

For a definitive answer you should contact the SS administration. However, I know of no reason your SS# wouldn't be valid and would be very surprised if that wasn't the case. SS#'s are assigned for life (forever?) and there is nothing I'm aware of regarding movement in and out of the US that would invalidate your number.

But to be sure, contact SS directly with your question.

Yes...

You only get one SS that last for your life... or as pointed out forever as they do not use it for anyone else even if you die..

(with only a very few exceptions such as yours being stolen and used by thousands of illegal aliens)
