Question about Spiders

When I look at site statistics, I see "currently active users"... Does the total number there include spiders? Never understood how they are seen or counted.
Just wonderin'

Spiders inflate the count substantially, because they can use four keyboards simultaneously.

Certainly scores of centipedes sway site statistics.

And here I was wondering if this was going to be a thread about arachnids or ETF's. Never judge a book by its cover; or the internet age analogue... never judge a thread by its subject line...
