I'd be responsible, I promise. Spend a few thou on my house, a few thou on car repairs, maybe taking another vacation or 3. Give the wife a few thou for a shopping spree. Maybe pay a little tax here and there. Maybe take an unpaid "sabbatical".

Taiwan handed out shopping coupons last month. Right before Chinese New Years. The jury is still out on how effective they will be off course they coupons were just over $100s. Not $3000.

Not to mention that if we gave $3000 for every person in a household, we'd be rewarding the woman who just had octuplets with an extra $24,000. Not sure I want to go there...

IMO the Government miss the boat on the May 2008 Checks - they should have sent DEBIT CARDS that would have had a 60 or 90 expiration date on them. That way the money would have been spent (or sold at a discount on EBAY or Craigs List) bit ultimately been spent here. I hope they do this with the next ones, if there are any individual tax credit or whatever issued.

I would be ok with that. As long as I get my $12000.

This thread is way more interesting than discussing "politics." Wait! This is "politics."

From what we have seen lately, even rice can be controversial. I never dreamed that the street food thread would end up getting closed on early.

If the dang govurnmint would stock taking so much of my money every paycheck, I could FIRE a lot earlier. Or if they would take just a little more and give me socialized medicine, I could FIRE a lot earlier.

Did it? I just tried a test reply & it was going to let me do it. I didn't since I had nothing to say..

Perhaps it was reopened due to the importance of rice in people's diets worldwide.

In the South, we can't have a meal without rice, Ha! I got a giant "Carolina Rice Spoon" with my initials engraved on the handle as a wedding gift, even.
It is of VITAL importance here to discuss rice.

Nice threadjack, eh?

I grew up on Carolina rice. Yum.

I come from Carolina so pardon my drawl
I'm here to mention long grain rice to you'awl
it makes right fancy eatin' - so tasty and so nice
for quality and nourishment it's Carolina rice

first you have to clean rice to make it worthwhile
pressure-cooked, southern or oriental style
serve it in a million ways - take my advice
nothing's economical like Carolina rice."

I do miss some of those soapbox discussions. It was fun to banter with people who have very different opinions than I do. You learn the most from those who disagree with you.
