Something looks very wrong with the Forum

I just got the asian porn stuff (2 messages) and there is a banner at the top of the forum home page that says "SMF" with a see-saw logo next to it.

I also don't have the options to view replies to my posts and to view unread posts.

Thought I would report it to see if anyone else is having the same problem. I know others already have reported the asian porn in the past weeks, but this is the first I've seen of it. I thought I may have luckily escaped it, but I guess it's still alive. Could it be a worm in the system or are these new hits?

Was the date within the past few hours, or weeks ago?

dory32, I had the same thing. Asian porn and Schwab spam. They were not in my PM yesterday. I deleted them immediatedly. I think you need to change the default in PM so that the PMs do not open automatically. This is for the safety of people's computer systems. I didn't get a date. Knee jerk was to delete immediately.

Re: Something looks very wrong with the Forum

I also thought I needed to report that my automatic login didn't work. When I logged in there was a second page that required me to login again and said something to the effect that it was a security enhancement. I am only reporting this because I do not see how logging in twice is "security". Either you knew the password or you didn't. If this page was real OK. If not, you have a problem since people are sending a second login with password somewhere else.

Could you brief us on what the "changes/upgrades" are so we can be assured that these problems are part of the upgrade and not a glich in the upgrade?

Re: Something looks very wrong with the Forum

I think the PM you saw was there all along -- as everyone probably got them when we had the attack, and only the indices to the messages were messed up when we killed the process to stop the attack. So the new software installation cleaned up the indices and "exposed" the message that was already there.

There are literally hundreds of messages and dozens of pages about the changes. The critical issue was the vulnerability that allowed the problem we had with spam PMs. Everything else is either a bonus or an annoyance -- beauty is in the eye of the beholder!

Here's the list of features of the software, for those interested:

From the developer:
Quote:
That message is mainly for people who upgraded from SMF 1.0.x to SMF 1.1 - a different password hashing method is used in 1.1, so the user is asked to re-enter their password (the first time they log back in after the upgrade) so it can be re-hashed using the new method.

Re: Something looks very wrong with the Forum

FYI: I needed to delete my cookies for this forum in order to get in. Without doing that, I got only a vague message to check the cookie settings (to me this meant make sure that "set cookies" was turned on).

Once I deleted the cookies all was well. Hope others find this useful.

Hang in there, Dory. Been there, done that, and aged 10 years in the process .

Check out the new "calendar" feature...you'll see a button at the top of the page.

For those members who put their date of birth in their profile, the calendar shows their birthday...and age!

I don't mind some Asian gay porn spam, but Schwab spam is beyond the pale...
