I just tried several times to log on through AOL and couldn't. *I remembered that I also had IE on this machine so I opened that and it popped me right in to the Forum

I havent been having any problems since the ungoogling change. Mostly two machines, one with IE and one with firefox, both on cable modem.
Lets try another experiment. Dory/Jim, can you post the direct IP address for the forum so people can try that instead of the dns name? If that works for people consistently, we'll know its a DNS problem on their ISP. If it still doesnt work, then theres probably a problem with one of their proxy servers.

Well if the direct addressed link above failed, then it isnt a dns problem.
Either theres a proxy problem with AOL's servers (and some other isps) or I'm not sure what the heck it is. I havent had a single hiccup since the last major change. Well, once when I licked 'post' it sat a while and came back that the site didnt respond but thats one little glitch in a couple of weeks.

I used to stay "logged in" all the time. Now I have to log in every time, even if I select "stay logged in"

Make sure your bookmark is for http://early-retirement.org/forums/index.php and not http://www.early-retirement.org/forums/index.php...
Either will work, but the software has some hardcoded paths, and www isn't included -- but if you go there that way, your login cookies won't be found.

I did try all of your suggestions. flushdns and resgisterdns. I still get the problem daily.
When I got the 'Web site not responding" message today, I tired Internet Explorer Browser and I was able to get to the forum without any problems.
So this problem is definitely related to AOL, so I guess it will probably go away eventually.

Its their proxy servers most likely. Plain old IE probably doesnt use their proxy servers, while the AOL version does. One of those proxy servers isnt updating its DNS cache. Someday they'll reboot it or upgrade it and it'll go away.
The good news is you only have to pay $15 extra a month for these great features!
