When can/should an older thread be bumped vs starting a new thread

I have some questions/comments directly related to an approx. 18 month old thread. I was wondering if I should bump it, or just start a new one with link to the old thread.

There are no firm rules on this. If it were me, I'd post on the old thread rather than starting a new one.

I’d post on an existing thread instead of starting a new one, unless the existing thread has mostly wandered off on tangents (as often happens).

If you're on the fence about the usefulness of the old thread, you could also start your new thread with a link to the old one. That's especially helpful when the tangents or details might be really helpful to some, but irrelevant and annoying for others.
