Anyone Use Astaxanthin?

I'm hearing great things about this supplement, including joint pain relief, inflammation reduction, tissue repair, etc. I can use help in all these areas so am considering trying it.

Anyone out there have any experience with Astaxanthin?

Thanks,
Pete

I have been using it for 6 months (Puritan's Pride 5mg daily) and I have ulcerative colitis. No effect whatsoever, total waste of money on snake oil.

I would suggest, go for freshly caught Alaskan Salmon twice a week from Whole Foods (which also contains Astaxanthin), better bang for the buck.

What do you do during the 7 months of the year when there is no fresh caught salmon?

I think the sockeye runs were very good this year-yesterday I bought a 6# beauty for $36.50. I was going to give some to my woman friend, but she is leaving town so it's salmon 3x/day for me for a few days!

noelm - thanks for the input. It's meaningful to me because you tried the stuff for 6 months! A lot of folks will give something only a couple weeks and pass judgement. Your longer-term experience is much more valid.

We have been using it for over 3 yrs. I gave a 60 day supply to my Dad over 2 yrs ago after he had experienced a painful flare up of his RA. After 30 days he asked for a six month supply, and has been taking it ever since. (4mg) He still has RA but for him he he feels that it helped his condition.

I bought it because of my fair skin and propensity to get sun burned. Not sure if it has helped as much as DW reminding me to put sun screen on.

There is some research on it, I first read about the benefits of it on the CYANOTECH website doing research on the stock before I bought it. We don't take any other antioxidants. You can buy it online for about 10 bucks for a 2 month supply.
