Blood observed in eyeball
I woke up today seeing lots of what looks like to be fresh blood in my eyeball.
No pain, no vision impact, but looks a bit scary.
Did a quick search on the web and found this
https://www.webmd.com/eye-health/sub...ed-spot-causes
Summary:
A subconjunctival hemorrhage is a red spot on your eye caused by a broken blood vessel. It might look scary, but it’s usually harmless.
In my case, the blood looks fresh and covers most of the right half of my eye.
Sharing this in case someone else might run into this same issue.

I have had this happen after a strong sneeze!
As long as there is not pain, swelling, eye discharge, or vision changes--usually not a problem. It will take a few days to resolve.

My Dad had this happen recently. It was my Mum that noticed - as it was happening. Went away without incident.

Fortunately, the flash setting in most good cameras includes a feature that will eliminate the red eye effect. But if you forget to use it, you can usually fix it in processing later.

You did take note of the qualifier… "usually".
Personally I would be asking the opinion of my eye doctor over my interpretation of MedMD or random Internet doctors.
Eyesight is way too important to screw around IMHO.

I'm a retired optometrist. I used to have people come in all the time with them. Very common.

For my spouse, that, a bulging eyeball, and a headache was ultimately diagnosed as a fistula in her brain two years ago. She could also hear her pulse constantly.
Essentially a leakage in an artery in her brain that caused a bleed.
It resulted in neurosurgery.

Still, a bleeding eyeball would have my full and undivided attention and I'd be headed to the ER immediately. I'd much rather have them tell me "you're fine" than hear after I went blind "if you'd come in promptly that's easy to fix".

A little redness wouldn't concern me (much).
The amount you're describing would send me to the nearest ER that has an ophthalmologist on staff - which our local one does not (as I learned when I had sudden scary floaters, that turned out to be vitreous detachment).
(The moral: Find out where your nearest ER is, that can treat eye emergencies).

Yes, probably two or three times. In my case, associated with stress and lack of sleep.
You can go to a local ophthalmologist to set you mind at ease.

Thanks everyone for your input/comments. I have scheduled an appt. with a Kaiser Optometrist tomorrow. I will try this new dr. since I can schedule an appt. now for tomorrow (my routine eye check up are normally done with a Costco Optometrist where I get my glasses). Do I need anything more than my Kaiser card?

Sometimes a dry eye situation may cause your eyelid to snag and damage a blood vessel in eye. Happened to 85 yo DM recently.

We have Kaiser, and our card and payment for office visit is all we ever need.
And most of the time, they no longer ask for our card (our picture is attached to the electronic medical record--easy ID)

Update: I went to see my Optometrist today. She checked me out carefully with the final verdict that my eye should be fine. The eye should look normal in a couple weeks. No action needed.
Just to make sure I am not too happy walking out of her office, she warned me about early signs of cataract (so everyone, please wear your sunglasses as much as you can outdoors). Also, as mentioned above: "check the blood pressure". Recurrence of this condition could be an indicator of high blood pressure doing its things.
Wishing everyone a great day.

Or, as it insultingly appeared on my chart when I was only 57: "Incipient senile cataracts."
The next doctor called it "brunescence," the browning of the lens that almost everyone experiences with age. He said it is not a cataract, and doesn't necessarily turn into one.
