My wonderful mega has a new “feature” nestled in the annual enrollment material this year...a separate premium table for employees who have been on long term disability for 2+ years. The differences are staggering.

High deductible plan for a couple: regular annual premium about $1900; for those on LTD it’s over $10,000. For traditional (non-HD) plan, the premium for a couple is about $3700; for those on LTD it’s over $14,000. And that’s just the premiums-before doctor visits, prescriptions, etc., which I imagine a person on LTD would have alot of.

The coverage between the plans is identical, for deductibles, out of pocket max & co-insurance. But wow, those premiums. Anyone experience this at their mega??

That is unusual, but maybe your mega is on the bleeding edge of the future. Usually employer group coverage is known for sharing one risk pool among all employees. Once you start getting underwriting into the mix, the advantages of corporate group insurance start to evaporate.
