Employer hasn't cancelled my insurance

I retired at the end of the year and signed up through ACA for personal coverage. It appears my employer coverage hasn't terminated yet. Is this a problem (I thought there was something on ACA about not having other insurance).

Can you enquire, either with the provider of your employer-provided plan, or with HR, to find out when your coverage will expire?

I can, I wanted to have some sense as to whether it was a problem before I called them.

As I understand it, if you have coverage through your employer, you are allowed to purchase coverage through the exchange. However, you are not eligible to receive subsidies.

If it were me, I would ensure that my employer-provided coverage had expired, before my plan purchased through the exchange took effect, just to make sure there no problems.

Did you retire on/before 12/31 or on 1/1? Usually insurance is still in effect until the end of your retirement month

My employer didn't notify me of my loss of coverage until 3 months later... with lots of hounding from me. Fortunately, I was not asked for proof of loss and I put the date I legally lost entitlement to employer provided insurance on my marketplace application. If I was, I would have provided my resignation letter and once I had my leave pay out pay stub (also delayed) that. I was not claiming subsidy as I retired mid-year. My employer eventually cancelled my insurance retroactively to the proper date! Sure could have put me in limbo if I had a medical issue and the marketplace refused to allow me to buy a plan. I was pissed and actually reached out to a senior executive to finally get them to do their jobs. Made me 100% sure I made the right choice leaving.

For 2022 when I am claiming subsidy, I did need to provide proof but by then I had the documentation.
