hope no one's a microwave popcorn addict

I just saw this article in the NY Times - apparently there is a respiratory disease that is common among workers in microwave popcorn plants, and here's a guy who developed respiratory problems just from eating a lot of it and inhaling the fumes:

The next day, there's another article that says the popcorn companies are working on changing their formulas:

Honestly - if working in a "food" plant commonly makes people ill because of the chemicals that go into the "food" or into preparing it, why does it take publicity from a national newspaper for the companies to change their practices? I know, the answer is that corporations are profit-first, but it really makes me angry.

I have asthma and most types of microwave popcorn send me into an attack .The only one I can safely eat is Orville Rickenbacker's smart pop.

I never cared for microwave popcorn. I still pop it the 'old-fashioned' a pan on the stove, but with a little crushed red pepper, cayenne pepper powder, and a dash of garlic powder. I really like fresh, HOT popcorn! YUM!

If I'm to lazy to pop my own, I take a ride downtown to the popcorn wagon by the park.
