Medicare Cost Research

First of all, I have LTC policies for DW and myself.

DW will be eligible to apply for Medicare in 15 months and Georgia is down by 2 touchdowns so I thought I would begin research on Medicare. I believe I understand the deductibles, co-pays, holes, supplements, etc. I am looking at total cost.

I thought I would select Plan A and B ($135 a month as our income is low), a lower end Plan D for about $30 and middle of the road supplement for about $70. Total monthly cost of about $235 per person. I know, when the time comes, I will have to look through options in much more detail. I just want some of you guys to confirm that my costs are in the ballpark.

Thanks.

More from OP. I don't have MegaCorp insurance. No military. No Government. Both DW and I have enough quarters. We are not on many, if any, meds. Georgia is still down by 2 touchdowns.

Both will stay on Obamacare until we turn 65.

An recent excellent thread on this subject can be found here: http://www.early-retirement.org/foru...ath-94740.html

DW will be eligible for Medicare January 1, 2020. We've already been in contact with Boomer Benefits.

Approximate projected cost:

Medicare Parts A & B - $135
Medi-gap Plan G supplement - $115
Plan D - $14

$264/month

It looks as though DW will be opting for one of the lower cost drug plans as she only has a single prescription for a thyroid med.

Lots to consider and think about when it comes to the Medi-gap plans and what one could end up paying OOP.

Candrew, thanks for the link. I had not seen this in my research. Also, thanks for your costs.

Right now, I pay a lot out of pocket, on purpose. With Medicare, I will have monthly premiums, but little no out of pocket. Of course, this assumes health will stay reasonable.

Yes, your costs are in the ballpark, although your $70 looks a little light depending on what supplement you choose
