I have a sister that reaches 65 in April. She's already receiving Social Security benefits. So, will she automatically be enrolled in Medicare a few months before her birthday? Thanks.

That's what I'm reading at the SSA site but just want to double check and tell her to expect a packet or something saying she is good to go, no other application needed.

She should receive her Medicare card in the mail in the next few weeks. My sister Will turn 65 in March and she received hers last week.

Great. Makes things easy for her. Thanks.

It is my understanding that you have to contact them to enroll, that it is not automatic. Better confirm that.

See this: https://www.medicare.gov/sign-up-ch...hen-how-to-sign-up-for-part-a-and-part-b.html

[If] I'm already getting benefits from Social Security or the Railroad Retirement Board (RRB).

[Then] In most cases, you'll automatically get Part A and Part B starting the first day of the month you turn 65.

Expect a Medicare card in the mail 3 months before your 65th birthday.

My husband was already receiving SS, and he didn't have to contact the SSA to enroll in Medicare. His Medicare card simply arrived in the mail a few months before he turned 65.

His Medicare policy went into effect the first day of the month in which he turned 65, which in his case was April Fools Day.

BTW, your sister will need to make her own arrangements for any supplemental policy.

Thanks for the info. Actually, she's on SSI. As I understand, she will automatically get extra help with the parts A, B and D.
