Next year (approx. Nov. 2018) I and my wife will retire to Florida. I am going to take my companies COBRA plan which covers us for 18 more months. After that, my wife and I will need healthcare for about three years before Medicare kicks in at age 65. Since my wife is a cancer survivor, I obviously need top notch coverage. For now, or at least at this time, I am in perfect health. Does anyone have any recommendations for carriers/plans in the state of Florida (St. Petersburg). Thanks for sharing.

Two major carriers, many different plans, HMO's and EPO/PPO's. Go to HealhCare.gov or Healthsherpa.com (3rd party site, easier to use) and you can view plans available for the area you are looking.

Our experiences have been great on the "other" coast. Assuming ACA is still available for another 3 years as it is today and subsidy funding is consistent. We have just secured a great plan for $0 premiums (Silver) for 2018. Florida Blue 1443b. It is good if you do not have to go to the docs and specialists too many times but the TOOP is only $2450pp. It is not as good as last years but all our docs take it, and so do a lot of others here. We have an abundance of doctors within 10 sq. miles and have never has an issue.

I will start a new thread call "Post your ACA Plan" I will upload it there for you to check out.

I am in the St. Petersburg area and I think you'll be happy with the caliber of specialists and hospitals here. I like the Florida Blue plans and prefer the "BlueOptions" plans which have a nationwide network and no referral to see a specialist. The two other types of Florida Blue plans are the HMO and Select.

This year I have Florida Blue BlueOptions 1410 Silver plan and it's been great. But it is way too expensive for 2018 so I'm switching to a Bronze plan, Florida Blue BlueOptions 1707.

In Tampa there is a world class cancer center, Moffitt Health Center, so try to make sure they are included on your plan. BlueOptions probably includes them but I don't know for sure.

Good luck.

How did you sign up?

Thank you for your insightful reply. May I ask: how did you sign up for this coverage with Florida Blue?

Blue is available right from Healthcare.gov, or their own sites. Your rates and plans will vary by county, but Florida Blue has been profitable for the past few years you can fully expect them to stick around.

Healthcare.gov

One thing is the doctor and hospital listings on healthcare.gov are not working for any of the Florida Blue plans - at least as of the other day. So if you want to get an idea of the network go to FloridaBlue’s own provider database. There is a link to it at the end of each of the plans. I called FloridaBlue just to doublecheck.

You need to go direct to the Florida Blue website to get that info.

Beings me to wondering. We are fortunate as we are all computer savvy. I feel sorry for the folks that do not own or use a computer. Yes there are a few still out there. I met one the other day, while I was amazed, she could not understand why I needed (and I do NEED a couple) a computer. She was 61. I gave her my agent's phone number.

Yes, the FloridaBlue website is good. We are lucky to have a company that is profitable. I will qualify for Medicare in 2019 so I’m fairly confident that FloridaBlue won’t quit selling policies before then.

Wow, age 61 is young for not feeling the need for a computer. I could understand it if she was 81. You are right that so many things require a computer these days.
