Where Should Original of Advance Directive Live?

I've learned that our Advance Healthcare Directives should not be stored in a safe-deposit box. Should I give our doctor the original and keep copies at home, or vice versa?

I gave a copy to my doctor and one to my DW. She did the same with hers (Doc and me).

Originals are kept at home in the safe.

Each time we have gone in for surgery, we gave a copy to the hospital.

I'm not sure if we are doing the correct things, but that's what we did.

Give the Doctor a copy. Anytime you are admitted to a Hospital bring a copy. Keep the original in a safe place.
