Anybody here own NVDA?
Just curious. Nvidia reports quarterly results today. I was good friends with the man who started the company back in our college days. I own some now, so I'm watching today's results with interest. It's been an AWESOME investment.

have 1 SEP $240 option contract ... does that count? It's ITM but still down about 15%.
When did you buy and at how much ... if it was a long time ago?
NVDA will affect enuf of my stuff when they report, much of it is in NAZ. They have turned themselves into a market shaking company. Heard they have a chip that triples output and speed, to be released soon?

I've been in and out since just after it went public, at around $20--can you imagine, NVDA at $20? Ahhh, if only I'd been able to foresee the future!--I would have just accumulated instead of trading in and out.
But I've done well with it, and hindsight is always 20/20, right?
Still own 210 shares that I hope to sell today if it behaves like it usually does on earnings day. Let's hope this afternoon's report is good--I'm kinda nervous!

I can't believe people could'nt see it coming. The increase in share price has followed the bitcoin fad. Check out used video cards on ebay. Newegg prices are dropping.

I have 400 shares .. now I'm richer today ... price is back up to $262.50 today (Aug. 22, 2018) lol. Bought since low $200s. Probably 300s soon with their new Turing graphics card with AI-based raytracing, shadowing, light refraction, etc ... excellent for 3D rendering, gaming, and VR

I own a GTX 1060 3GB in my current rig and have my eye on the new RTX 2070 when it comes out... does that count?
I got the kind-of-weak 1060 in my new build last year due to the bitcoin craze. Everything better was selling well above sticker price. But that has crashed and new and used video cards are starting to go on fire sale. I might buy a GTX 1070 on the cheap, depends on the benchmarks of the RTX 2070.
IMO, if you own NVDA in a trading account get out now. It will correct hard, but it is a good long-term play. If I was a trader and not locked in by huge capital gains I would sell and look to buy back in the next overall market correction.
But don't ask me, I've weaned myself from all individual stocks except one 10-bagger that I've owned since 1997 (and which beat today ).

My son works at NVDA (he is 24). I bought some stock when he initially secured his internship there. The stock was $22/share then! My son has told me they have an excellent employee stock purchase program. He was able to pay off his car by selling some shares this year. I told him not to put all his eggs in one basket so he is diversifying. If it crashes eventually he won’t go broke but I think the company will be quite solid for the foreseeable future. It seems like a very cutting edge place to work.

Some technology becomes mature, and essential to progress and growth of industry. Think of switches, for example. Company I work for just purchased a large number of managed switches to deploy across several locations. They have someone come in to help work on the rules to deploy, etc.
I don't own NVDA, but might consider buying when there is a significant correction. Seeing how the future is developing, I can't imagine NVDA not being in the thick of it.

This is the first time I let myself get rattled in several years and did NOT stay long. Boy, am I kicking myself now.
Oh well. I'm still chanting "a bird in the hand ..." to myself several times a day, trying to make myself feel better.

My son works on the self-driving technology project. The AI is incredible. The DRIVE platform can process over 24 trillion deep learning transactions per second. Yeah. It is the brains of self driving vehicle technology. This technology will change the modern vehicle the way the smart phone changed the cell phone. I’m in! [emoji106]

Nvidia is a very different company than when they bought the ashes of 3dfx in December 2000. I like the fact that they are pursuing many areas including self driving technology. At a PE ratio of 40, which is 60% higher than the S&P 500 average, there's still room for significant pull back.
Full disclosure - I bought $1000 of NVDA when it was $31 a share. I'm going along for the wild ride for now.

I bought MU this week, on the assumption we're not at the peak of the cycle for memory chips (based on inexorable online data increases) and the number of competitors has lessened. Growth at a Reasonable Price stock.
I may put a trailing % limit stop on Intel, though, to lock in 120% gains over the last 5 years.
We'll see what happens.
