Avoiding Dividend Cuts

Juicy yields will begin to appear as the market continues to slide to lower levels.

For those who have bottom fished in the past, what metrics do you monitor to avoid buying a company with a juicy yield only to find they cut the dividend shortly after you buy??

Having a very heavy weighting in cash yielding 2%, I'm seeing good companies on sale yielding 5-6%, I'm even seeing reits yielding 14% SNH is one I nibbled on recently because the financials look good.

ie PE below 2

P/E's are pretty meaningless in regards to REITS
