build a Sector concentrated portfolio to deploy $1,000,000 today 3/14/2018 given current macro economic conditions. The million dollars is in two piles of $500,000 each. 1 pile is an IRA account the other is brokerage. The IRA must stay in marketable securities, but you have the option to use alternative investments for the brokerage money (rental real estate, individual businesses, etc.)
The goals for the portfolio are in order of importance below:
1) Capital preservation
2) Capital appreciation
3) Income
4) Tax efficency
The time frame is longer than a year (30+), and it is assumed none of the money is needed for 2-3 years. Additionally, it should be designed with the KISS principle, say no more than 10-20 positions.
An example might be:
IRA Funds:
20% VZ
20% ED
20% FHKCX
20% PG
20% SCHD

100% Muni ladder with 5 yr or less maturity
