Going long on D to replace Washington Gas (WGL) that was acquired for cash. Fortunately I held it in an IRA. It was a near 3 bagger for me despite having purchased it just for the divvy which I did not drip. Same thing happened to me with Potomac Electric (POM) and I bought Southern Co (SO). Divvy on D is ~4.75 and I do expect some price appreciation. These utility stocks just don’t sit and payout dividends like they did when everything was regulated.

My long-term concern with Dominion is whether it will be dragged down by its exposures to coal and nuclear electricity supply. I don't think either is in danger of getting regulated out of existence, whoever controls the government.

But natural gas and wind are placing cost pressures on both, solar may get there, and the beginnings of electricity storage could push out high-cost electricity production.

It may still be a good stock in the short-to-intermediate term, and their mix of production could change.

Dominion might be the only single stock I own - all the rest is in Vanguard. I inherited it and it’s been very good to me with all the DRIPping over the years. Maybe I should look at the annual report! Are they working to diversify into more environmentally friendly energy?

They do have some solar acquisitions but I haven’t come across the details. They’re currently acquiring SCN and I’m not sure how that affects the mix. I think they have the only LPG export facility in North America.

Their investor page is half filled with a photo of a solar farm, and their materials emphasize growth in solar and other non-fossil-fuel electricity production. They certainly talk a good game, although it's still a tiny part of its capacity.

I'm an index investor, and have been pleasantly surprised over the years how much it has grown while I've ignored it. It could be time to pay attention, but I don't know how I'd go about it. Just turned 65, and I've been decreasing equities and increasing fixed-income to carry me through the beginning stages of retirement in case of a bear market. I'll have to give this some thought. I'm glad you brought it up!
