Will be fun to watch either way...........
Several times, I have told the story of the late Sir Templeton and the tech bubble in the late 90s. In early 2000, he was already retired and no longer managed any people's money but his own. He could not help it and shorted some tech stocks and dotcoms, and made $80M for himself. He waited until the market showed sign of breaking down before he made his move.

Julian Robertson who managed Tiger Fund also correctly predicted the tech bubble burst, but he was too early. By shunning all tech stocks and even shorted some, his fund trailed the S&P so badly that he had to close it and returned money to his investors. Immediately after his fund closure, the tech stocks imploded, and Robertson was vindicated, but it was too late for him and his investors.

I would want to be like Sir Templeton, not Robertson. So, I am still watching.

When Gilead buys Juno, you guys are going to be left in the dust.

We are talking two comma club for Fermion's portfolio.

I will be happy for you, Fermion, if you make the same play on Juno with your real money.

As for me, it may make me sad as I have a bit of Gilead, and the acquirer stock more often goes down than up.

No, I don't own any Juno. Celgene owns 10% which might complicate things, but then again, Celgene had the confidence to invest 1B for 10% when the whole company now trades for $2.4B

Everyone thinks Gilead is going to buy INCY. I think they will go somewhat smaller, something like Juno.

But it is a crapshoot at best.

I was quite sad as I saw GILD race up to over 100 after I bought it in the low 70s, only to see it slowly make its way back down to the upper 60s. I bailed when it eeked out a small profit a few months ago in disgust. Good luck!

That's me right now; I'm relaxing and just watching because an average result will be good enough for me.

Passive indexing is to investing as Buddhism is to religion.

Boho,

Maybe this picture more reflects what you are really feeling?

Remember you have to consistently beat the index to make the time and effort worthwhile for your portfolio.

Otherwise, be like Nun and just follow the index.

I'm Jeff, and every time I try to edit my portfolio it takes me to a page of code that doesn't work.

I just traded successfully. What page shows the code? It should be http://www.simvest.com/trading/trade.php

I think exnavynuke is talking about trying to change is user name from Jeff to exnavynuke on the contest.

Clicking on "my profile" then "edit my profile" leads to the error. I think
exnavynuke might have to try and contact the website. Or stay as "Jeff" for the contest .

Sounds fun! I've just created an account and placed my first orders. Expect me to burn through those 100K real quick - I'm a terrible stock picker.

Also not a big fan of the contest rules - why the 5$ minimum stock price and the limitation to those markets only? I wanted to bet half on SDRL and short some German energy companies with the rest.

Correct. The "edit my profile" link (How Market Works - Stock Market Forums and Simulators) goes to an error screen. Leaving it as "jeff" isn't going to hurt my feelings any though, and I think trying to get the website to change it would be more trouble than it's worth.

Sounds like a good idea "Jeff".
