I know lots of you are familiar with SW Florida! I am traveling with my niece for a birding trip there at the beginning of April. We have most of our itinerary planned, hitting lots of the big spots. But our first evening, we are going to be looking for the burrowing owls in Cape Coral and having dinner there.

So I'm hoping for recommendations for a seafood place on CC with outdoor dining & water view (not necessarily of the Gulf proper)! And, also, a place for current information on burrowing owl burrows.

We are staying in Lehigh Acres, so we are targeting "that end" of Cape Coral.

Thanks in advance!

Just got back from Cape Coral and we found the owls had nests in a lot of the vacant canal lots. If you drive around you will see where people have roped off sections of the lots to protect the owls.

Thanks, jfn11 - what are "vacant canal lots"? Are they simply any empty unpaved space near a canal, or are they spaces prepped for houses not yet built?

Your best resource is probably ebirds.org. click explore on the home page, then species map, enter species & location & set the timeframe for the current/last month. You'll get a lot of hits.

A few more comments:

We stayed in Naples 2 years ago, and Cape Coral last year.

The burrowing owl nests are plentiful. In Cape Coral there was actually a family in our front yard, so we saw them every day. But as said above, if you just drive down the streets with houses on or near a canal you will see many roped off areas protecting the nests. Usually in vacant lots.

As far as dining, where you are staying is actually closer to Fort Myers than Cape Coral. There is a Pincher's https://www.pinchersusa.com/ in both places with ocean views from the bars.

I highly recommend Deep Lagoon in South Fort Myers on McGregor Blvd https://www.deeplagoon.com/locations/ . You can sit outside next to the marina. Everything is very good, but if you like fried oysters, they big and juicy and cooked perfectly. They also have a location in Naples. In our 2 trips, I think we ate there 6 or 7 times.

In Cape Coral I also recommend Lobster Lady https://www.lobsterladyseafood.com/ and Jungle Bird Tiki https://www.junglebirdtiki.com/ . Great food, but no view.

Have fun.

Thanks for the suggestions, Cardsfan! Oysters are what I'm craving, and I like that Deep Lagoon recommendation!
