Seems like they cannot print 2 stories, but it is exciting to see it develop.

The rest of the world can go for them if they want, but I wouldn't live in one myself.

I guess I'm old fashioned. I like the charm of living in my standard 1965 brick home. In a sense, it is 4-D if the 4th dimension is time; it has been here on this lot, providing a cherished home for its owners for 56 years. It has details that just aren't built into homes any more. A newly built or 3-D printed home would be missing that 4th dimension.

Well, I can relate to that sentiment.

It looks like we may get a feel for 3-D printed homes and how people like or don't like them:

Icon, a Texas construction-tech start-up, announced Tuesday that it's teaming with a major developer to build a community of 100 homes in metro Austin that will spit out of a 3-D printer.

Quote:
Icon has one potential solution:
Quote:
  • It has built 15.5-foot-tall printers that can push out concrete framing for a 2,000-square-foot house in just one week — saving time, manpower, and money.
  • On Tuesday, Icon tapped major developer Lennar to break ground on the largest development of 3-D printed homes by far, dwarfing Oakland-based Mighty Buildings' planned 15-lot community.

This is the modern version of the Edison poured concrete house. A few of them still exist in NJ.

I wonder how the lenders will handle these.
At least they look more or less normal.
But comparing them to a conventional stick built house for appraisal purposes seems problematic.

Steel framed homes assembled by wall section are much smarter. My husband designed an AutoCad macro years ago that could take drawings and convert them to instructions for construction. The builder sets the foundation, the dimensions are verified, and the building is pre-fabricated in a couple of days. Wall sections are stacked on a truck in reverse order of installation (the first wall on the top). The steel studs are pre-punched for electrical and plumbing.

Elon Musk has been living in a box house in Boca Chica - "It’s literally a box—a mass-produced, 20 feet x 20 feet foldable, prefabricated home made by Boxabl, a startup making modular instant houses." - https://observer.com/2021/06/elon-mu...-chica-spacex/
