Exclamation iPhone texts & CC

I'm a CC customer again. I was with them a few years ago-switch to VZ. Purchased a phone from CC and stayed.
I found to my dismay that if your using an iPhone on CC for texts the text is charged against your data allowance. DW & I were sharing data and we were always going over our limit. When I called CC they explained that the method Apple uses for texting uses data.
DW & I now don't share, we each have our own account and data.

You may have other reasons for not sharing, but the recent(last 1 1/2 years) changes to minutes and data rates favor sharing by a significant amount, imo.

FWIW, if you turn off iMessage (under Messages) in settings you probably will no longer use data for instant messages.

If your iPhone instant messages show as blue they are going through Apple and you are using data. If they show as green they are going through your cellular company and you are not using data.

At least, this is my understanding of what happens.

What I came here today was to ask if anyone using an iPhone XR on consumer cellular and are they satisfied.
Our two year Verizon agreement ends, phones are paid off, so looking around for new carrier

Thanks

If you bought your phones from Verizon, they are CDMA phones. Consumer Cellular uses AT&T cell towers and GSMA phones. I believe that would be a problem for you. You might try Red Pocket cell service. I am in the process of switching to them now with my CDMA iPhone. I searched around and believe they have the best deals. Take a look at them!

That used to be the case but all newer phones should work on both CDMA and GSM networks.

+1

Redpocket has a $15/mo plan with 1000 minutes of talk, unlimited text, and 1GB of 4G LTE data per month (unlimited 2G thereafter). That plan would probably be more than enough for most people. It can be activated on any of the 4 major networks, including Verizon.

We just completed our first year with Redpocket and have been very pleased with the service and price. They provide access to all 4 major networks at the best prices I've seen.

My new prepaid annual plan is $210 ($17.50/mo) on AT&T. That's for unlimited talk/text and 5GB of 4G LTE per month. DW now has a monthly plan for $19 on Verizon. She gets unlimited talk/text and 3GB of 4G LTE per month.

We like lots of data for when we go camping/hiking/biking. So we pay a little bit more. But the $15 plan would easily work for us most of the time, especially because we haven't been traveling this year. Just sitting at home using our own WiFi.
