All my software worked ok except for LibreOffice but I just needed to download the latest version that was online. My Brother color laser works with Big Sur.

My understanding is that most but maybe not all 64-bit apps should work with Big Sur, but not necessarily all hardware drivers. You should check with your printer manufacturer.
This is the source of my "understanding":

Catalina contained a major architectural change (no more 32-bit software suppport if you know what that means). Developer's had years of warning, but some put off making the changes needed and others never did the work to support older hardware (mostly old printers and scanners).
Big Sur's biggest change is ADDING support for Apple Silicon Macs, but doesn't take away anything (significant).
The next big discontinuity for Macs will be when Apple drops support for Intel based machines, but that's years and years away.

I'm in no hurry, but I looked yesterday and while my B&W laser printer is supported by Big Sur, my color laser printer is not. It's nine years old, but still works beautifully so I'll be waiting until they have an updated driver for it.

I updated to Big Sur. The only problem I had was that Libre Office would not start up. An update to the most current version solved that problem.

I've had issues using an external display with my MacBook Pro. When waking up from sleep mode, open windows sometimes disappear and it is very difficult at times to get them back on the display.

Well, I finally was able to get past the download with my 2019 MacBook Pro. Big Sur is installing now.

I switched a couple of days ago, on two of our 3 macs. No problems. I read somewhere that TimeMachine backups now will use the APFS file system, if you redo them from scratch, and are now significantly faster. So, after a couple of days, I nuked my backups and re-did them.

Are they faster?
I assume you lost your backup history. Right?

Yes, I did lose the history, but my history only went back a couple weeks, so I was ok with that.
See the ArsTechnica review of Big Sur here: https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2020...nica-review/9/
Scroll down to the chart. It can be up to 4 times faster.

I reformatted my Time Machine USB drive to APFS and did a full backup. 158GB took 30 minutes. Much better performance.

I have run across what might be a minor problem. When I go to penfed.org, using the chrome browser, nothing happens when I click on the log in button. If I do this in Safari, it works. I see this on both Macs I have converted to Big Sur. Maybe it is just me somehow, but there are a bunch of javascript errors in the console log, so maybe chrome has some issues?

I have not upgraded my work MBP because our IT dept. told us not to. As python developers there are some changes that our users already reported incompatible with our tools so I will wait for their 11.0.4 or later revisions and most of breaking bugs are ironed out before my upgrade.

Has anyone loaded this year’s TurboTax to a Mac with Big Sur. I just looked on Amazon and the Mac version does not list Big Sur as a supported OS.

The TurboTax site says
Quote:
2020: macOS Mojave 10.14 or later
|
So I assume it will be fine. Haven't upgraded yet to Big Sur so can't verify it. But if there are problems I'm sure they will be fixed in short order.

MacOS Big Sur
I installed TurboTax 2020 on Big Sur last week with no problems. It’s not final so updates have installed, also no problems.
First time user so I’m looking forward (not really) to tax time.
One detail: I bought the Windows version to run on a Parallels VM.

I have Turbo tax running on Big Sur in emulation mode on a new M1 MacBook Air and it runs fine.
