I've heard their introducing a Pro model this time, but as I understand it the Series 8 will start at $399 or thereabouts as with earlier models. The Pro is expected to be a niche model for conspicuous consumption, most people will buy the Apple Watch Series 8 or whatever the lesser model is e.g. SE, Series 7...

They've added Pro models to most of the products to mine whatever demand there is for even higher priced gadgets, it's not a replacement for the Series 7. They're not replacing their $399 Series 7 with the $899 Pro.

Heck, the Apple Watch Hermès is already $1200+. I guess there’s always a market for such things.

Lots of Apple watches are much cheaper. No big deal. Apple has always offered a few high end expensive Apple Watches.

Yes, the nice thing about Apple stuff is that when a new model is released, the previous version immediately gets a sale price.

I love my Apple Watch. I think I paid $300 ish at Costco. Makes 2FA easy and workout tracking fun and simple.

I think the vast majority of the watches I see on folks now are Apples. My wife is the exception, she has a Garmin.

Good thing they have some cheaper models. They'd have a hard time selling the $1,000 model to some of our members (including me!).

It won't sell

"Gas Prices!" "My Student Loan Debt!!!" "Rents are high!!" "It's so hard to make it!"

Things are very very tough. There's no way a $1000 watch will sell especially when many who want a SmartWatch have one.

There's no way. They will sell $1000 watches to the top 1%'ers only.

A lot of people who complain about those things are the ones who buy the $1000 watches and phones and eat out 10 times a week not counting their daily coffee. Priorities.....

If Apple customers (or even some of the Android customers) will pay over $1,000 for a phone, then trying to get that much for a watch is not an unreasonable tactic IMHO.

1% of 330,000,000 people in the US is still a fairly large number. At a 30% take rate that would be over a billion dollars in sales.

18K Gold Apple Watch has been around since early days.

I think an early edition was $10K

Apple decided to have high fashion accessory versions of the watch early on.

How much you got?

Below is a site with used Rolex prices (I don’t think Rolex puts prices on their website).

The blue faced gold Submariner is asking $53k. This is about double what I paid for a new one about ten years ago.

I hadn't worn watches since my student days.

Now I have a Series 6 which I use everyday, mostly for controlling playback of podcasts and Apple Pay.

Also things like timers and such.

I will upgrade but probably not for a couple more years.

The Pro that they're talking about presumably would have additional features or sensors or maybe a more powerful processors.

That would be how they differentiate it, not on basis of casing materials or fancy bands.

Also the bands are not expected to be compatible with the existing Apple Watches.

They're trying to do things like blood sugar monitoring without needing to draw blood. That would be a big deal for many people.

Another possibility is blood pressure monitoring, though I've had wrist monitors where the accuracy was questionable.

Well, it turns out the new “pro” watch is only $799, ha ha!

DH is all excited about it. He currently has a titanium watch, and this new one is $50 cheaper than what he paid 2 years ago. He'll be able to trade in his current watch.

He's also going for an iPhone 14 Pro Max whenever it becomes available. And the new AirPods Pro 2nd generation.
