Can a log curve provide some encouragement?

Here is an interesting article from the NYT that suggests that a log curve may be better to evaluate whether Italy or the US are staying on an exponential curve or beginning to bend, I don't have the maths as the Brits say but I am confident that some of our pros have some perspective. Since to my vague understanding a 45 degree log slope is exponential I guess these curves are still alarming.

It might have benefit with showing when the rate is slowing by tipping over
but it would also mask the problem by making things look better while its still growing exponentially (before it tips over). Most of the population doesn't understand or look for a logarithmic scale nor understand exponential growth.
