Misinformation about COVID-19

By now we have all seen plenty of false or misleading information being spread about the virus, its effects on us, and our responses to it. This would be a good place to post corrections to those false rumors.

Please don't just report one rumor that contradicts another one. Links to reputable sources are always appreciated.

I'll start with some that have been addressed by Snopes:

Memes and Misinformation

Origins and Treatments

Government Response

WHO has a Covid-19 mythbuster page.

https://www.who.int/emergencies/dise...c/myth-busters

And a page on masks.

https://www.who.int/emergencies/dise...w-to-use-masks

And another good Q&A page that has been referenced here before:

I'm finding there's so much information, and it's all evolving so fast, I can't stay current - so I've become more cautious in what I post re: CV-19 in the past day or two. I got blasted for posting something incorrect once (regrettably true), with the OP claiming I had repeatedly posted that false information and I had posted a link on his thread - both NOT true. People here seem to be doing better than the general public/spring breakers, but there's still some misinformation circulating. In looking over snopes, there are quite a few "mixture" versus outright "true" or "false."

This is another reason I'm glad I don't w*rk any more. There was one in every office who thought they should forward every sensational email they ever got to the entire group. I can't imagine what it's like now, even with (or should that be especially with?) everyone working from home.

We won't know for a few months what is "misinformation." I suspect some of it will come from the conventional "mainstream" media. Time will tell. I try to keep an open mind about everything I read regardless of the source.
