Just saw your note about the Big Island. The most useful single resource was "Hawaii: The Big Island Revealed." The 2010 edition was about 300 pages and includes info on lodging, dining, activities, and more. It's not perfect - any print book is going to be somewhat outdated, but it provided a lot of information in a compact form. I haven't checked to see if it's been updated. It's nicely organized with things grouped geographically so that it is easy to plan a day's outing.
I left in '74 to go to Columbus, OSU Dental School. They awarded me by BS in 75 when I finished my first year of D School. After dental school I moved to NY State. My folks lived in Cincinnati (well, Milford, I grew up in Madeira) until 2003. I just went back in April, my first month of retirement, and hooked up with some high school and college cronies. Went down and checked out the "new" Over-The-Rhine" area, and a few other places.
