It wasn't the wrong thread...I was responding to MichaelB's post No. 52 in the Dow 28,000 thread. Cheers!

    Hi pb4uski,
just wondering how you like the Sarasota area. I love to fish so I am hoping to rent a place on a canal and have ocean access for near-shore fishing. I am thinking we will rent a place for a month in 2018. We decided not to rent in FL this year as we are headed to Italy for a couple of weeks in Sept. It's our 30th anniv plus I turn 55 in Sept. I can ER with DB plan paying 50% of salary. Yahooo . DW may w*rk two additional years. thanks

Sorry for the late response fishvt... I didn't see your comment until just now. We used VRBO but there are others like Home Away. One thing that I did in both cases when we rented was that I got onto the county website to confirm that the unit that we were renting was owned by the landlord before sending any money since there are scammers out there. In one case, I also called the condo association office and confirmed that the person owned a condo in that HOA. Good luck... it might be hard this late in the game but some rentals fall through and the owners are scrambling to rent them.

    Hi pb4uski,
I am in VT too. I am looking into FL rentals. Anything you have learned about things to look for when renting? Do you go direct to owners? We want to spend $3 or 4k a month. It's 2 below right now so FL would be nice

I am soon going to FL, still thinking of re-locating there, so I read your post of where you were buying a condo.
I had to wonder, where do you rent for 3-4K per month ?
Where roughly speaking is this condo you are buying ?

I have gone and checked out some park model communities, including the one that imoldernu has owned for ~15 yrs.

This trip I'm going to look carefully at St. Augustine area, but would love other ideas (anywhere in FL really).
