Hi,
I've just retired this past week at 60, actually haven't been to work since xmas eve but was on the books to burn off earned time till now.
My wife has been retired 2yrs this coming May.
We live in Ct, for now.
Right now the big nut we're trying to sort thru is health care and am looking forward to researching what u people might have done.

Congratulations! Welcome to Early Retirement.
As you can imagine, health care is the same big nut to crack for many. If you can give a sense of what options are available to you, I'm sure you will get good thoughts.

No more Mondays - what a feeling!

Congrats.
Are you familiar with the ACA and its rules?

Congrats. No more Mondays. In fact no more weekdays. It's perpetual weekend. Hoorah!

Well, not quite as you will find out. Weekdays are great to go shopping, as long as you avoid rush hours. Weekends are bad now.

But I forgot about what you asked. Oh health insurance.

You have not checked out ACA to see how it works? Most people do not quit work until they secure some form of health insurance.

Thx.
ACA is about all there really is from my ongoing research of the last 6 months. Was wondering if there was anything else I missed. Short term health ins and/or HBI are scary. Might as well be self insured.

Congrats.

Yes. But with 2 pensions and 1 SS soon and living in Ct the caps are unrealistically to low.

So true about getting out on weekends. We've been to Vt, my family homestead, 3 times already during the week and I was amazed at how much easier it was traffic wise.
When my wife retired I told her "no more time off". I under estimated how true that is.
Thx for the welcomes.

Most definitely, the best aspect is "No More Mondays." Although, I prefer to call it "No More Sunday Nights."

Congrats. Sunday nights are now my personal favorite.

Great example was that we attended big Super Bowl Party couple weeks ago and many of my buddies were moaning and groaning...complaining about having to go to w*rk in the a.m....I just grinned and grabbed another cold one....ah, life is good!

Mondays are now my favorite days of the week. It's the day when all the [-]suckers[/-] other people head to work, so that I can enjoy uncrowded streets, grocery stores, and parks.

Congratulations on your retirement!
Other than work related healthcare, COBRA or the ACA options, I am not sure what else is out there.
Hopefully you have something set up prior to leaving work?

Yeah HI is a big nut. I figure it's the cost of RE. Others don't. Either way can you survive on HD health plan with savings backup? I did until this year when I go on Medicare. Then the windfall happens. Instant wealth.

Thx.

Congrats on your retirement from a fellow nutmeg-er. Glad to hear you are getting up to VT, we love it up there and had a house near Bromely for a while. My kids aren’t into skiing and we are thinking about Maine, but the summers are so nice in VT we may get something in the valley.

I know someone who can help you with health insurance if you are interested. There are few but limited options in CT. Good luck

Are you enjoying your Sunday? Now you can watch 60 Minutes without having an adverse reaction when the stop watch starts ticking.... :)

I try to schedule medical and dental appointments on Mondays. That way, I can still enjoy that sickly feeling of looming Mondays that have been part of my life for the past 40+ years.

Do the math on delaying Social Security.

We're delaying my SS but my wife has to pay into it starting at 62 whether she takes it or not, so we figure it doesn't make sense for her to delay.

We love it also. I was born in St J and my family homestead is in Danville
where my father still lives, and my sister and family on a parcel my parents gave her yrs ago.
I've always talked with my wife about buying my brother and sisters out when our father dies but lately it's looking less likely. It's still a nice place to go home to but the state is becoming more of a socialist state with high property taxes and the winters are just a little too long for us now.
Any decent health care is across the state to Burlington or down to Hanover N.H. Dartmouth.
Not to mention we're ocean boaters and Danville is a little to far from the salt.
For health care now we've signed up with a Ministry Health sharing org called OneShare health that is giving us good prem's.
