what time do you wake up?

Retired a year and still getting up a 6am, anyone else? What time do you wake up now that you retired and why? DW thinks it's odd to sleep until 10 am, I think that is what should be normal.

Unfortunately we do not have room darkening shades due to a half moon window, so sun up I'm up.

Up at 3:00 a.m. to 3:30 a.m. I'll stay up until 6:00ish and then go back to sleep. Also am known to take a mid afternoon nap from time to time.

Nice to be able to get up when you feel like it in retirement.

Retired 15 years and wake up between 4:30 am and 7:30 am. Why? I don't have a clue.

7am.... The dog will wake me up if I over sleep by more than ~10 mins. If I get up at 5 or 6 (for some odd reason :)) the dog doesn't move. I often trip over him but he doesn't seem to care...

I sleep 6 hours a night so when I get up depends on when I go to bed. I usually go to bed between midnight and 1:00am , so I'll be up between 6:00 and 7:00. Time can adjust, but always up after 6 hours or less.

sengsational 08-15-2020 09:08 AM

My bed time is 11 +/- 1hr. I get up 8 hours later, but only if I didn't have a waking spell. These spells can last 2 hours sometimes, so it can be 8 plus wake spell time, so 10 hours.

I make it my business to have my sleep monitor ring give me a "crown" award every night. It's pretty easy... either get 7.5 hrs (or more) of sleep or be in the bed 9.5 hrs (regardless of the amount of time actually sleeping).

My guess is >90% of the time I wake up between 5:30 - 6:30

SoReady 08-15-2020 09:24 AM

5:30AM, at pickleball courts by 7AM.

Ronstar 08-15-2020 09:26 AM

Anywhere between 4:30-6:00

donheff 08-15-2020 09:35 AM

6:15 - 6:45

davebarnes 08-15-2020 09:37 AM

Whenever.

pacergal 08-15-2020 09:41 AM

Anywhere between 4-6am. During work career, our alarm was set for 5:45.
When I first retired, I was able to sleep until 7. Why I am now waking up at 4, who knows?? Sometimes I can roll over and go back to sleep.
It doesn't bother me anymore because I can take a short nap if I need too! But I rarely do as it messes up my sleep even more :(.
Usually in bed between 10-11pm no matter what.

Retired 9 years ago and still wake up between 5:00-6:00am most days. No idea why, but I usually fall asleep around 10:00pm so I'm getting enough sleep. My Dad woke up very early his entire life, lived to 96, so I think waking up early may not have much to do with work v retirement.

8:30-9am

I sleep like a baby...three hours at a time. And all through the day. I really need to get my nights and days turned around to normal. It doesn't help that my computer and tv are in my bedroom so I lounge around with screen time and "rest my eyes" with another nap.

My wife gets up around 4am everyday, I normally hear when she gets up. I have a pillow speaker and usually listen to an old tyme radio show, until 5am when I change over to WABC radio and listen to Bernie and Sid. Somewhere between 4am and 6:30am I get another 30 minutes to an hour more of sleep. Normally get up at 6:30.
This past Thursday I spent all day working on an awning frame, with lots of ladder climbing. Friday morning I didn't get up until 8:30!
So, it depends :-)

Body rhythm appears to really, really want me up between 5:30 and 6:30 am. If I wake up and see the clock closer to 6:30 am then 5:30 am, I'm ecstatic at being able to 'sleep in.'

Sleep is increasingly elusive with age it appears. And I'm still just in my 50's! :(

aaronc879 08-15-2020 09:52 AM

I prefer to wake up just after sunrise so this time of year I am up by 6am most days. In the winter i'm more likely to sleep in until 8am or so. I would assume this is what we are programmed to do in terms of evolution. Makes sense to me that you would want to use the daylight so go to sleep not too long after sunset and wake not too long after sunrise.

pb4uski 08-15-2020 10:00 AM

Left to my own devices, I'm usually up between 7am and 8:30am. But sometimes earlier and sometimes later.

Chuckanut 08-15-2020 10:04 AM

I wake up when my valet informs me breakfast is ready.
