Are there any particular stocks or stock sectors that you plan to sell in the near future? If so, what is the reason for that decision?

Actually, my year-end decisions are more along the lines of which charity I should double up on this year. Many have been devastated by Covid. You could see why. Folks drop charities during tough times because it's the easiest thing to do. At the same time, the needs met by such charities always increase during times of stress like we face now.

I guess it never even occurred to me to do anything other than rebalance as usual. Having said that, my port. is pretty much back to normal (well maybe a bit MORE than normal as of today, heh, hey.) As always, YMMV.

Yes Im hearing of some real charity struggles for funding. Kids Alive International and also our local Food Bank are hurting, and Ive read about them in the past 24 hours.

Sold all equities today! If that counts as year end... Why? Maybe the biggest short term gains ever, for me....

I was locked out of my primary brokerage account (system problems at Schwab) for a few hours this morning during early trading, but fortunatually I had all my sell orders entered before the opening bell. (Pays to listen to pre-market news sometimes. :)) I didn't know until about 10am what had sold and for what amounts... It was a little stressful for a few hours but ended in very nice surprise!

I'll be looking for the next big dip now.... I'm not sure what the trigger will be, but I'm sure it will happen. So maybe I'll have another year end sale :)

Probably will gift more to the DD now than I had originally planned...(My charity of choice)

No selling other than potential tax loss harvesting.

I agree with Koolau, we will be increasing our year-end giving.

Same here. I just gave $10 K to an organization that helps the homeless, and frankly it did not put a dent in my holdings. I am up about $200K this year, and want to share it.

Not planning anything major. I think the market will be expecting a new fiscal stimulus (as they were before politics got in the way) between now and whenever that happens. And interest rates will remain low as long as unemployment is high.

I will sell some and buy some but no major plans.

And it was pure dumb luck! What I sold today may double tomorrow, but I'm still very happy my profit margins.

I've sold some things, bought some things. Sold some of my Apple (hard to do as I've owned it since 2001). But it represented too much single stock risk (by far my largest single stock holding - still does even after selling some). Also decided to max out my 24% (single) tax bracket this year and take some LTCG on top of that.

I need to hone in a bit on what my estimates are for 2020 total taxable income - may sell some more things or even do a withdrawal from a tax-deferred plan to top off the income (alternatively, I have some short term gains which I could also sell...this is less likely as they become more valuable (less taxes) if they get to long term).

On the buy side, I've been doing more speculative things. I have positions in OCUL, VFF, other spec plays. Not tons of money, but enough to be interesting. I've also been increasing holdings in precious metals and stock equivalents (Gold/Silver ETF's, gold/sivler minors (like GDX)).

Overall, net selling recently.

Although I've taken my (not-required) RMD for the year, I'm considering taking another chunk from the 401(k) this year - within the same tax bracket. That has been my 'lazy-man' way to rebalance the port. In anticipation of higher future taxes, it may be wise to take the hit now. Besides, we haven't done anything for the kids this year and I know they have needs now. YMMV

No.
If so, what is the reason for that decision?
It's pretty much settled science that short term price behavior is random and relative sector strength is unpredictable. So worrying about sectors is similar to going to the casinos. Both can be fun, of course.

There's enough volatility that some individual investors' sector bets will win but the majority will lose. Sector bets made through stock-picker funds are more likely to lose because of the drag their expenses exert.

I sold out of my preferred stock funds (PFF, PSK) as they are getting lofty. Have been using this cash to buy into mid cap banks and Utilities paying 4-5%.

I already have a huge capital gain to contend with for 2020 taxes so setting some cash aside for that.

Call it conversions or would have been RMD, I doubled up on my withdrawal from my tIRA.

Sorta late in the game about doing Roth conversions but finally decided this was a good year to start. Moved a chunk from my t-IRA to a newly established Roth earlier this week. Will top it off to a level within spittin’ distance of my upper tax bracket limit as soon as some of the end of year finances become a little clearer. No big changes in what assets I’ll be invested in, though.
