Those are two different butterflies. You can easily see how unalike they are when looking at them side by side

Of course they are different, it's a BIG family of butterflies. :D There are 6.000 species in the family. I just picked one that was similar. Google says :"it's so"....do you not believe Google? :)

According to Google photo matching it's a:

Gossamer-winged butterflies

Lycaenidae is the second-largest family of butterflies, with over 6,000 species worldwide, whose members are also called gossamer-winged butterflies. They constitute about 30% of the known butterfly species. The family comprises seven subfamilies, including the blues, the coppers, the hairstreaks, and the harvesters. Wikipedia

Thanks aja8888. You beat me to trying to find out a name. I never have seen a butterfly like that.

Very nice!

Now that would be an exciting day, great picture!!

Here is a picture of a small antelope buck which is a rare sighting for me as I entered my ranch yesterday. Antelope range (live) in Montana is about 3/4 of the state but this was a first to see one on my place. I see small hoof tracks at times, and I suppose those have been antelope.

Street - your ranch is so great for photography! Always wildlife and great landscape spots!

Mathjak - nice wwII photos. Those B&W shots look like the real war photos.

Thanks , I tried to keep that feel

Hiked into the eagle nest and what a change from about a week ago. This eaglet still looked like a chicken and almost all white but now it is looking more like an eagle now. To the far left just in front of the eagle's tail feathers is a prairie dog.

And the last photo has a certain quality about it that reminds me of a civil war battlefield painting. Of course the vehicle is out of place. :)

All around, great job mathjak!

1966 photos - Worschiem, Germany

I was stationed at Hahn, Air Base between 1965 - 1966 and was a member of a nuclear missile launch crew (4 person crew). We had 12 active missiles designated Mace “TM-76A” - three launch crews of 4 missiles (surface to surface ) on our site that each could deliver a 1.1 megaton blast at a target in Russia or other satellite locations.

These birds were Jet - Assist (JATO) launched and had a range of 1,400 miles. We were "on alert" many times and were occasionally photographed by low flying MIG - 15's (chased away by F-102's!). The U.S. Air Force shut the sites down in mid 1966 as the targets were covered by aircraft and I was transferred into the Minuteman Missile (ICBM) system in the U.S.

Photos taken with a Minolta SR7A SLR and developed by me!
