No need to do that. I ratted FEMA out to the Red Cross this morning - now that they are picking up the room tab for eight families here at the Ramada - you can't use the phone - obviously we can't be trusted.

Used my own credit card to establish pone service.

I guess - I'm just a crook out to screw the government(at least FEMA) until proven otherwise.

The Red Cross didn't need to get him to resign - just fix the phone.

Heh, heh, heh, heh, heh. - may become a curmudgeon before my time.

By "resigns" I guess you mean "steps off the tracks before the approaching freight train runs him down". I figured his departure was inevitable one way or another.

Who's next? Well, Bush accepts responsibility. Sort of. "To the extent that the federal government didn't fully do its job right, I take responsibility." It leaves some play for what extent the gubmint didn't fully do its job right, but it's a vast improvement over deflecting blame and saying how well things have gone.

And did you see his body language when he did it? Head averted, eyes with that "thousand mile stare," shoulders slumped. Handlers clearly beat him about the head and shoulders to get him to take his medicine.

And rightly so. It was that or continue to claim that the response wasn't a result of racism -- and being put in a position to have to deny THAT is even worse than taking responsibility!

No, I don't watch much TV these days besides DVD movies. The headline of the internet articles I saw included the "I take responsibility" part of the quote without the qualification. I had to read the article to get the whole quote. I still don't know the context.

I find all this amusing - having been through a few hurricanes since 1974 - the Red Cross and FEMA - have actually performed 'above and beyond' all prior efforts. Except - this was 'the big one' - the one everyone expected would happen - SOMEDAY! - but 'not hopefully, in MY lifetime.'

Firing a few functionaries, screaming and yelling - does not change the fact - Mother Nature owns the cards.

BTY - FEMA check(arrived in the mail yesterday) and Red Cross wants us to come down and get more 'living expense money.'

In 1974 - Betsy and Camile(65,69) were then still a topic of analysis. Post mortem on this one will be good for another generation.
