Congratulations first of all to Dory on his demotion. ;)
We all have him to thank for giving us a place to go to that didn't cost anything (well I did give $100+), when Motley Fool decided to cash in and charge for the forums that volunteer moderators and posters built up for them.
I have looked at this forum as a labor of love by Dory, the moderators and posters and that gave it a special vibe to me - a not for profit probably a money losing rebel enterprise - a quasi charity - I managed to deduct the donation on my tax forms :D but tell no one about this.

I guess I need some understanding about what happened and what will happen with this evolution.

It seems like this is going to be part of an ad driven business - a professional one with paid staff...with a business plan....we would be valued under assets or liabilties? Hey! Watch it! Keep it to your self buddy! I can see the possibility that this growing collection of social sites that belong to Social Knowledge, LLC http://www.socialknowledge.net/ will someday be sold to a larger business and that may be where the bucks are made, not that there's anything wrong with that, after all, this is America Samir!

Dory certainly took on the expense and hours of labor to host this great site and he certainly has every right to cash out (did you? or did you just give it away?) and enjoy his time.

Questions:

1. How much did you receive from Social Knowledge LLC?
Curious what a site like this is worth.

2. Can we expect the forum to remain as it is?

3. Will Dory and the old moderators remain?

4. Will Dory & the old moderators continue calling the shots?

Thanks again for the ER Forum Dory and most or all thanks to the moderators and most of the posters who have made it a special place. Hope it remains so.

That's what we think.

Why, have you heard something? Is this a call for change?

I also wonder about the possible, potential income that can be derived from this forum website.

If TiogaRV's website http://vagabonders-supreme.blogspot.com/ generated over $12K income in 2006, this forum should be able to double, triple that income easily, but may be not.

No, not at all...I love you man....

Am I correct in assuming that the only income this site generates comes from the "Ads by Google" ads at the bottom and the ESRBob Amazon.com link?

Plus all the money you've sent to Dory. You have been sending money to Dory, right? Everyone?

Yes, I have. But only once since I've been here less than a year.

Anyway, I hope Dory is making good money out of this transaction. The annual potential ads income from this forum should be substantial. If this was my business, I would sell it at 5 to 20 times its annual income.

I have no idea if Dory would care to share if/what/how much he sold the site for...if it was me, I'd prefer to be private about it...on the other hand, I am curious what other sites you folks know about that actually do generate money...I've always assume that making money just from advertising was a fickle pursuit...the RV site that someone mentioned, are they really generating $12K/month on that...wow. Is that verified?

Anyone have links to any other sites that are real money makers? with estimates on the income they are generating?

Oops, guess I read that wrong...12K a year, very believable...12K a month, I would have been more skeptical (and ths my "verified" comment)...I didn't mean actual *verification*...I was just wondering how accurate the number was and what the source was...only because $144K seem like an awful lot of money for a site to generate...

And to be perfectly honest, I am not really OldMcDonald...much more accurate to say Not-So-Old-McDonald (age 43)..but harder to type it that way..if you don't beleive me, ask my dog - he'll verify anything for a rub on the tummy. :)

I finally am able to access the site, was anyone else cast out and left to fend for themselves in the internet wilderness..
The time was not a total loss, I have embarked on a new retirement pass-the-time. I created 2 blogs and have signed up for Google's Adsense (hey they just approved me - go figure! - I guess they'll take anyone) so I can pack my sites with ads that will generate mucho revenue from the throngs of people only to eager to visit my valuable content....I can sense there are some unbelievers amongst you...but be that as it may I figure if I'm going to post my stuff I want to be paid for it from now on, even if its just a few nickels a month. So from now on I will only post here if I get a cut of revenue... ;) A quarter a post or a penny a word, Andy?
Love ya guys...

I was going to ask if I was going to be getting a monthly check, but I figure I'm lucky to get away without being billed and having a handful of collection agencies chase me down the street.
