First time travel blog, driving out east

I thought I'd share our travel blog with this board. As quick background information, my wife and I took a vacation last year, driving from Chicago, up through Wyoming/etc, down through California to Vegas, and then back to Chicago. It was a great vacation, stopping in many major parks, and went around 6k miles.

So this year, we decided to do the east coast, and my wife volunteered to keep a daily blog. It was our first attempt at a travel type blog, though we plan to have something similar for when we retire (10 years, here's hoping

Just thought some people here may find it interesting. We're almost done with it, we just got back this Saturday and we've been working 14 hour days since, so we haven't had a chance to finish writing up those last 3 big driving days (though there won't be much to say)

The maritime culture here is fantastic, and there is much to see of and from the water.
Maybe on your next trip....lots more to see here.
Great pictures, too! I enjoyed the beautiful sunset shots and the squirrel!
We'd like to do a trip like yours, but across the south to the west. Hopefully before we retire (10 years too, we're hoping)!

Actually I haven't gone on the trip yet, I'll be posting in a few years I believe. I'm really looking forward to the trip, it sounds like we had a good time.

In reality, yeah we covered quite a large area in a short time. We are partially going to use our blog to remember which areas we'd like to spend more time in. I know we both thought Maine was very pretty.. actually New Hampshire as well. Anyway, it was a good exposure to a lot of different areas, and was different from a normal vacation certainly

and i thought my recent 3000 miles in 2 weeks was a lot of travel.

your last stop before heading home, sunny isles beach, has probably gone through about the most drastic change of all south florida areas. ten years ago it was mostly 2 & 3-story kitschy mom & pop motels steeped in 1950s roadside architecture designed to pull the tourist off road for a night or two. as a teen & into my early 20s i used to play at the wreck bar of the castaways hotel. it was a little seedy by then but always fun. done up like the inside of a sunken ship, you'd enter between two huge fish tanks and behind the bar there were "portholes" looking into the swimming pool.

all that is now gone. in the 1990s much of the oceanfront property was bought by the dezer family and later trump bought in. today sunny isles is a wall of concrete. assuming anyone actually lives in those condos, the density there is overwelming. if they ever had to evacuate real fast, not 10% of that population would survive.

Yeah, as far as I could see, a large portion were condos & quite a few hotels as well. It didn't seem very crowded at all while we were there. I could look at a couple condos from where we were staying (had a lovely balcony , and I'd say maybe 1/5th or so had lights/people moving that I ever noticed. So I'm willing to guess that a lot of the condos might be either unsold, or 2nd homes for the wealthy to visit on vacations.
