Hurry up with the Blackberry, would ya?

Congrats on the new apps...and um, I'll be waiting impatiently with my trusty Blackberry for you to notice us...Yoo Hoo....over here, with the Blackberry...yeah...don't forget about us...kay, thanks!

audreyh1 01-02-2011 04:23 PM

Huh? I've been accessing this site (and posting) from my iPad since day 1. This forum has been working great with the Safari web browser already on the iPad.

Audrey

Peter 01-02-2011 04:28 PM

I'm sure the forum is fine on the iPad. But the screen layout just doesn't work too well on the much smaller iPhone display.

I just downloaded the new app, and it works well. I haven't yet found the equivalent of the 'new posts' tab. Also my ignore list doesn't seem to work on the iPhone app.

But it's great to have smart phone apps at all, so no real complaints!

There is a 'button at the bottom of your screen that says 'current'. It loads latest threads and while it's somewhat limited it achieves the same thing (mostly).

I'll make a note for the software developer about the ignore issues.

Sue J 01-02-2011 04:40 PM

Thanks Janet!

This is easier and looks better than using the browser on my iPod touch.

T-Al,

It's in the upper right corner, the box with the arrow pointing to the right. Then choose Reply to Thread. Other choices are Subscribe or Refresh page.

Oh, boy, now we can read posts that say "Sent from my iPhone".

I'm sure I'll be just as impressed with the spelling & grammar as if it had come from a real keyboard.

Thanks, Janet and Andy.

FWIW, I was able to access the above android link but could not download from there. I did download it from my android phone directly by searching in the Android Market directly. Seems to work well on first glance.

I installed the new app on my iPad. Works great. I love the ability to load a picture directly from my iPad photo library. Good job everyone!

Well, I am embarrassed. I went to the site (ob my PC) and shared the link with my Android phone by email. When I go to the site I see info about the app but can't find any way to download it. Is the link hiding in plain site?

I spared you the "sent from my iPad messages" all these months! Actually those are just default signatures for emails.

Audrey

P.S. Sent from my iPad

Interesting bunch here. While they may not be the same people, we have some who don't want to pay for TP but buy iphones and ipads.https://www.early-retirement.org/foru...s/confused.gif

Very eaay to add photo, too. Note that the progress bar is wrong when the attachment is being uploaded.

Pull the text down and you will see a button for attachments. From there...

I use the "wipe" app... :whistling:

WanderALot 01-05-2011 10:03 PM

Cool! I've been using Opera to access the the forum but thus interface is much better. I believe there's another benefit to the app over using the browser; I think the data transfer is all encrypted. Can anyone confirm this? If so that's a big benefit to those who access this thru from wifi at work!

I don't think the data is encrypted because we don't use https but it might show up differently if someone is logging internet traffic since you are not calling pages (just data going back and forth). I am not 100% sure how this would show up but there is a chance that it's different.

vicente solano 01-07-2011 03:36 AM

My objection to this App is that the font size is too small i my Iphone4 and I canŽt find a way to make it any bigger. Is there a a way to increase the font size? Or an App that would be useful?

If not, IŽll have to stick to the conventional way to browse the Forum:frown:

Janet H, New to the site. I can not get spell check to work, is it safe to download ispell? Not familiar with this. Thanks, fun in the sun

iPad not working too well

When I access www.early-retirement.org from my iPad, I do not get the full portal screen. Everything is there except for the recent thread part. All I get is the top part (menu bar part) and the bottom part (online user listing part).

I downloaded the app (the icon shows "E-R") and this has no way to get to the recent thread listing either (or is there?)

Am I doing something wrong?

Sue J 02-17-2011 07:26 PM

On the E-R.org app the bottom toolbar has icons for Forums, Current, Messages, Logout and More.

The Current one is equivalent to the Portal which is recent threads. That's how it shows up on my iPod Touch.

The app really does work well.

Here's a very minor issue. When looking at the Current threads screen, it shows the avatar for the thread starter, and the text from a recent post. As a result, it looks like the thread starter wrote the text.

For example, in this screen, I did not write the text about being burned to a crisp:

Duh... Thank you Sue! It is not surprising that it was me, not the app...:whistling:

I have the mobile app on my iPhone, but everytime I try to use it I get Error: Permission Denied. Is there a setting I need to adjust to keep this from happening? - Thanks

(disclaimer: I know little to nothing about this app).

I had exactly the same problem with the app when I got my new iPad2. What fixed it for me was to use the app to log out of the forum, and then log back on.

For the iPad in the upper right corner there is a function key (an arrow?), click and a window opens with reply as an option.

Has anyone tried this yet on a Kindle Fire?

Chuckanut 12-02-2012 05:06 PM

Just updated the ER Android app. It does not work. Everytime I attempt to start it I get an error message - "The application just crashed and a report has been sent to the developers".

Not very good.

I had the same problem and ended up uninstalling and then reinstalling the app and that fixed it.

To fix problems, go to manage applications. Delete account data and cache. Reboot your phone. You'll have to re-enter your account data.

Re-installing might be easier.

Does seem brain-dead way of doing apps.

Ronstar 12-25-2012 09:31 AM

Just got a new iPad. The ER app seems to work somewhat, but the upper right arrow does nothing. Also blue down arrows do not work. I reloaded the app once but it didnt fix it. These arrows work in other forum apps.
Any ideas?

Maybe hardware related.
I've never had any problem with my original iPad -- still working perfectly.

New iPad user here as we'll. I also use the browser having had one failed attempt with the app. I did have to turn off javascript to stop the annoying Home Depot pop up Ad.

target2019 12-26-2012 12:19 PM

After installing or reinstalling, I would delete all data and cache if having problems. Then I would launch the app.
