Was this a great deal or what ?

WHEN GERTRUDE JANEWAY died in 2003, she was still getting a monthly cheque for $70 from the Veterans Administration—for a military pension earned by her late husband, John, on the Union side of the American civil war that ended in 1865. The pair had married in 1927, when he was 81 and she was 18. The amount may have been modest but the entitlement spanned three centuries, illustrating just how long pension commitments can last.

Our (generous DB) pension plan has clauses to limit the "Anna Nicole Smith" effect. The survivor's pension is reduced by a multiplier which depends on (difference in spouse's ages) minus (number of years married). Basically, if an 80-year-old pensioner marries a 20 year-old and then croaks from exhaustion, she gets nothing, and if she's 35, she gets very little.

Which reminds me:
A 90 year old man goes to see doctor before getting married to an 18 year old girl.
The doctor, mindful that the man will not be able to "satisfy" his new bride, wishes him well and suggests he take in a lodger. The old man visits the doctor a few months later and the doctor asks about the young wife. "Oh, she's pregnant", he replies.
"And what about the lodger?", asks the doctor.
"Yes, she's pregnant as well" says the man.

Wow,

No COLA? haha

To bad for her there was no COLA. Cause $70 pension from 1927 would be worth 890/month today.

Any old admirals or generals looking for a partner? I'd even settle for an O6:D

Not quite as extreme as the civil war example, but we have a retired teacher in our system who is 106 and still drawing her pension.Been retired since the 1950's with a cola pension. Wanna bet she has gotten her money's worth in relation to how much she put in?

Not only did she win the pension lottery but she won the life lottery also.
