For some boomers, delaying retirement isn't worth it - Chicago Tribune

According to this article, many boomers are on track for retirement as planned. The article also says that the oft cited worst case scenario that people will have to keep working until their 70's is just not happening. Instead, some people are deferring retirement from 62 to 65, but most people are not going very far past 65. Essentially, people just stop working when they are entitled to full social security benefits, and they "make the numbers work."

Not surprising IMO. A couple points to be made though:

1) On the Vanguard survey, I wonder if that was only for those who HAD a 401k. Many people don't have them...and could be worse off.

2) They talk mostly about the oldest boomers. Those are the most likely to still have DB pensions....those at the tail end (like me) don't have the pensions...so the math is a bit different.

Thanks for posting.
